Thoughts about trivial things, over 50 so far.

HURRAH! Have found awesome new website of perfectly acceptable BDJ fan fiction. Will cut and paste here: http://www.geocities.com/ljhfanfic/BridgetJones.html

You will see that this gal truly is channeling Helen Fielding. She does a wonderful job of really developing the characters and starts off right where the books leave off. Bravo!

*sigh*

Am purposely thinking about trivial things because I cannot deal with my real life right now. It's TOO real. I do know I am being incredibly vague about some things, but I just can't bring them to light here. Things will be ok in time, as all things usually are. But I hide it well, don't I?

This weekend was nice. Friday, I just stayed home and played with my new Maytag dryer center. Tis a MAGNIFICENT piece of appliance.

Saturday: Went up to see Ray Lamontagne in concert at The Trubador and got his autograph afterwards. Love that venue. Lots of history. Ray was good, but very shy when we tried to chat him up afterwards. He has a very powerful voice and wonderful songwriting capabilites. From what I understand, he is my age and his family doesn't quite like that he does this for a living. Stayed the night in Lake Forest. I had a great time.

Sunday: Went shopping with Wednesday. She looks FANTASTIC! I could not get over how thin she was getting, and she looks so happy. We went to 3rd Street Promenade and shopped all day. It was just nice to catch up with her.

Came back home and kitchen was GUTTED. I'm glad because my mom is worried that it may not get done in time for my relatives arrival at the end of Feb.

Lunch in 15 mins and I have to finish some work.

No. of times I have looked for Bridget Jones's Diary fan fiction on the internet: twice this week. No. of fan fiction entries that are actually WORTH IT: BAAAAH!

{Begin rant}

Dear fan fiction writers,

When attmpting to channel Helen Fielding, please acutally READ all the material she has produced about the herione Bridget Jones so as to make your work more plausible. DO NOT just watch the movies!

At the end of the "Edge of Reason" novel, Mark Darcy asks Bridget how she feels about Thiland (because of the possibility of having to go there for a job instead of LA). When you BEGIN your new entries, do not begin with "So what is Thiland, state or country?" because you know damned well in the very same book (and movie, mind you), Bridget gets arrested and placed in jail IN THILAND...so I think she's well aware that it's a country, thank you very much.

Now, you may tease as to the whereabouts of Germany, because she may still not know where that is...even AFTER checking the atlas. Maybe even bring back bits and pieces of both books and the columns if you so choose. But don't bring up whole passages and second hand jokes ripped from both novels. Be creative, be inventive...but don't try to actually BE Helen Fielding. Even SHE admitted that she borrowed the idea for the story lines from Jane Austen, so the rest (obviously) is all her own.

From everything I've seen so far, Helen Fielding is clever and well read. If I were to try and even attempt a BJD's entry, I would feel like I would have to bone up on my British-isms, politics in the UK, world affairs, and sports just to keep up. I would implore you to do the same.

Sincerely yours,
Bridget Jones afficionado and Colin Firth admirer
(although admittedly only recent)

{End rant}

Which Colin Firth movie did I watch last night: "Hope Springs". No. of times looked up Colin Firth on the internet: 0. No. of good vibes sent out so that my co-worker would bring my Bridget Jones's Diary back: 100

And it WORKED!

Hurrah! My co-worker brought back my BJD dvd today. Watching "Hope Springs" is ok, but I need my BJD. Used to watch "Bend It Like Beckham" daily, and now it's been replaced by BJD.

Have worked overtime 4 days this week, and I am EXHAUSTED. Thank GOD I am going out to LA this weekend. I'm going to see Ray Lamontange this weekend, then I'm going to Encino to see my other friend Wednesday (I can't think of what I called her before, so I'll call her Wednesday...she wished that was her middle name once upon a time).

Wednesday and I met during my O-Town days...when I had stopped dating UNLV the first time around and wished ill on all men. So I guess I turned to young guys in boy bands as a replacement, haha! We had forged a great friendship during this time, and she is one of my closest friends. She now has a boyfriend, and I couldn't be happier for her.

My mom and I had a couple of fights this week. We were watching "The Virgin Suicides" and we were talking about what could possibly disturb a 13 year old to end her life. Then she started to talk about the girl in the movie in reference to what she was going through, and whenever my mom starts talking about suicide, I get completely upset. It's SO irrational and SO selfish. I had to leave the room, I was so upset.

The second "mini" fight was yesterday when I went to pick her up at the hospital after her check up. But I know that one was just all me, and I really shouldn't have blown up at her.

Things got better when we went to Home Depot and she bought an $1899 refridgerator. YES, you are not misreading that. Was a VERY NICE fridge. Maytag, sliding lower freezer, upper French Door design, it's own filtered water dispenser and ice machine. We also got a new stove and above range microwave. I picked the colors for the paint and it's going to be between 3 kinds of counter tops. I also picked out the faucets for the sink. I think the kitchen is all set because the cabinets have been ordered.

But I'm glad I'm going to be gone this weekend. I just don't want to be home right now.

No. of times looked up Colin Firth online today: 10.

Found a book called "Mr. Darcy Takes A Wife" at amazon.com today. Must admit that I'm a little obsessed with looking for all things Colin Firth on the internet. So I was looking for books about "Pride & Prejudice" and found all these sequels. That aforementioned book had the "Look Inside!" link and I read a few of the beginning pages...

The woman who wrote that sequel OBVIOUSLY wrote it with Colin Firth in mind as Darcy, and herself as Lizzy after watching the BBC movie because it is basically soft porn. Some of the lines are just confusing, and the author tries to channel Jane Austen, but in manner of "Red Shoe Diaries".

I'm all for reading P&P while imagining Colin Firth as Darcy, but to take Jane Austen's classic and make it into a Harlequein Romance novel just doesn't do it for me. There's a whole passage about a pillow that Mr. Darcy gave Elisabeth to sit on while they were going back to Pemberly because of their tumuluous night of passion on their honeymoon. Do I REALLY need to know about that? I mean, COME ON!

I think there's a part in "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" novel where she interviews Colin Firth (SO funny), and she asks if he thinks Mr. Darcy and Elisa Bennet had sex before they got married. He says that in Jane Austen's world, no...but in Andrew Davies world (director of P&P), perhaps (something about in one scene, Colin Firth was given direction to "Imagine you have an erection" when he saw Elisa approaching him in the grove after her long walk across the country). Somewhere else in the book, she says that it's just something one doesn't want to imagine...and it's TRUE. The whole quality of P&P is that Jane Austen writes about the courtship and climaxing feelings, not the fact that they had many nights of climaxing. It's a classic book written yesteryear, and the sequel just is a torrid wannabe. It's riddled with "betwixt's" and "heretofore's" in all the wrong places and OFTEN. When I have time, I'll have to re-type a passage just to show you what I mean.

Ok, back to work.

Life is still complicated, but perhaps is clearing up a bit. Have made some final decisions that are necessary, although sad considering the circumstances. Ever wondered about "what might have been?" I used to...but I think it's best not in situations such as these.

Yes, very vague...on purpose.

Got the new Maytag® Neptune® Electric Drying Center. It's AMAZING. I shall be very excited to use it today. One of the "little things" in life I get to enjoy. I also got all the "Bridget Jones" books ("Diary", "Edge of Reason", and "Guide to Life"). Can't believe how different the books are to the movies. I want a book of all the columns, because those are so far better than the books or movies. But that's cause my imagination runs wild placing Colin Firth as Mark Darcy. *sigh*

Went shopping for this weekend for the house remodel. It's SO tiring to go around all day looking for tile, paint, fixtures, and appliances. My mom and I have to go this week and pick the model of the appliances we are going to buy. I want all our appliances to be Maytag (stainless steel). I really really want the new washer to go with our spiffy new dryer. I think mom will cave in by next month's end.

Book club meeting was last night, although it turned out to be more about gossip and catching up with girl talk than ANYTHING about the book. The book we read was "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" by Mark Hadden. It was vg, and when I went to Canada, I saw at least 2 other people reading the book, too. Still, it was a very good evening.

Patriot vs Eagles for the Superbowl. Go Pats!

Ok, back to work. I'm working OT 3 days this week.

When did life get so...complicated?

Wednesday, January 19, 2005

Will not disclose weight (waiting to see if Special K challenge is actually working), alcohol units 0 (don't really do that nightly, or weekly for that matter), cigarettes zero (don't smoke), calories unknown (do not keep track...but just might!)

Hurrah! Have begun writing journal in style of Bridget Jones (maybe just this once). Have been reading a LOT of Bridget Jones columns and really feeling need to date Mark Darcy. But alas, do not know any bloke remotely close to, or even like Mr. Darcy, so hope to find such a man will likely yield no returns.

Feeling a little bad because I have not returned some phone calls that I received over the weekend. I've got to call friends back today so they don't feel that I've forgotten them. Sometimes I have these old feelings that pop back in and out every now and again for a certain person and when I don't hear back, I get anxious. GAAAAAH! Must stop that IMMEDIATELY.

Went out with Ten on Friday, after not seeing her for almost a month! It was vg (very good) to finally see her and talk at length with her again. Exchanged some VERY interesting news with each other...lots and lots to share! Her news was much more heavy handed, and I really hope that she will make the best of her situation. I cannot explain here, but I'm not sure what I would do if I knew what she knew.

Ate at Picasso's (tapas extraordinaire!). Love that place. Vg food, and with drinks we only spent about $36. Had coffee at Starbucks. Ten gave me an envelope with what she thought contained a Starbucks gift card, only to realize the cashier never added the card! 'Tis ok, I loved the purse she gave me. Then saw "Meet The Fockers" which is a sequel to "Meet The Parents". Fun movie, lots of strange imagery which may haunt me for a time *shivers*

Saturday, went to stay at Barona. GAAAAH! It wasn't so bad, but mum had a comped hotel stay and free buffet, so how could one turn it down? Whilst they gambled the night away, I sat in the room and watched "Tsunami Aid". John Mayer said "shit" while performing Hendrix's "Bold As Love". The person in control of the sensor button was a little late on the jump and bleeped the wrong thing. It was mentioned in the news, but only briefly...I believe he got out of it unscathed.
Our fridge is in our living room, did I mention that? Tis strange to walk in the front door, go to set VCR to time record shows, and grab a drink all in the same room.

Am very anxious about a few things, and wish I could discuss them here, but can't.

Need mini-break. Hell, need full blown holiday.

I've been sick for the past 4 or 5 days...it really hit me like a mack truck on Friday. I think I aggravated it during the Jets/Chargers game. Please DON'T get me started on that! ARGH...they lost by a field goal in overtime...

Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about my dad. It's my mom's birthday this month, and it's going to be really hard. I miss my dad like I've never missed him before. I feel like I don't want to get used to him being gone...is that strange? I don't want to understand what life is without him because I don't want to forget what it was like with him.

But we can't help that, can we?

Everytime I start to write something thoughtful, I get distracted by little things.

I was going to write about somethings that I've been reflecting on, but yesterday...I just didn't feel like expanding on it. I keep beginning a dialogue about 2004 being gone, but I just can't delve into it right now for some reason. I think it's because people do that just because it's the new year, and I'm not sure I want to be that cliche.

BUT, I have started the Special K challenge. I ate WAY too much over the holiday, so I am trying to purge my system, if you will. I was going to re-start Tae-Bo, but I got a cold (UNLV seems to think I got it from him...which I wouldn't doubt), so I think I'll have to wait until next week. Either way, I'm going to go back to good eating habits again.

It's POURING out today, and the Chargers vs Jets game is tomorrow! The Jets arrived yesterday, and theyre staying at The Hyatt Regency here in La Jolla (I'm at work). News 8 tried to interview them, and they were MEAN! Only one guy spoke to the reporter, and he said that it's because he's from Texas and not a true New Yorker.

Alright, gotta run.

Here's something cool that happened to me today!

One of my co-workers is the daughter of Leroy Jones, who was a defensive end during the Air Coryell days of the San Diego Chargers. I've often said to people that was one of the best games I ever saw because it went into overtime.

Well, it took me but a minute to realize that my friend's daddy was THE guy who blocked the Miami field goal in over-time, which allowed the Chargers to get the ball back and score the winning field goal. It was a rollercoaster of a game, and my Chargers won 41-38.

SO, while gushing to my friend about it...she CALLED HER DAD TODAY, and I got to speak to LEROY JONES on the phone. I was so nervous and excited to tell him that he played in one of the most exciting games I had EVER seen in my life. I had seen Louie Keltcher and Rolf Benirschke when they spoke at my school when I was in junior high, but I never got to actually speak to a Charger player LIVE before.

This just goes to show you the depth of my Charger fandom. That game in Miami was in 1981...I was only 11 years old, and I remember that game. Kellen Winslow was my hero. He already blocked a field goal and then went on to play no matter how tired he was.

These are times I wish my daddy was still around. He would have been so excited because our whole family watched that game on TV.

Here's a summary of that game, for anyone interested:

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a happy and healthy one. Mine was happy but not AT ALL healthy! But I had a BLAST!

I hung out with UNLV and his mom and her boyfriend for New Year's Eve. We had dinner at Aubergine's, and footed the bill to boot! That was SO nice of them! Then they went home and we ended up roaming around Gaslamp...finding ourselves at our favorite dive bar (Alibi), and in a sports bar afterwards at an 80's party to ring in the new year. It was a lot of fun! The bartender (who found out is named Doug) was cool and gave us free drinks because UNLV stumped him on a couple and he couldn't figure out how to make them.

We did the same thing the next day, too...back to Alibi. We were definitely trying to get at least buzzed. After the 3rd and onto the 4th round of shots, the bartender said, "What are you 2 trying to do? Are you TRYING to get fucked up?" I explained my best friend hails from Vegas, so what do you expect? He agreed, haha! Doug (the bartender from the night before) was there as a customer that night and recognized us, and yelled "THAT MAN IS EVIL!" at UNLV and told the other bartender to give him Washington Apples the rest of the night. It was hilarious!

So I'm back in the grind this week. It's a little tiring after being gone almost the entire week, with the exception of one day I went to work.

Hope you all had a great new year, too.
