These are my earth shattering observations and revelations, my truths if you will. Please refrain from genuflecting in my presense after reading these. A simple "Your wisdom astounds me and I hope to be like you someday" would suffice.

You can stop laughing now and just read on, thanks.

The "Vintage Concert Shirt"

I have come to grips with the fact that all the concert shirts I own from the 80's are now considered "vintage."

Vintage...as in old, classic even.

It is quite fabulous and all that I have that stylized look with these shirts without trying or spending God aweful amounts of money, but to admit that I actually went to that 1987 Billy Idol concert is a little disconcerting. The reactions of "Oh wow...you were THERE?" have humbled me more than anything I can think of at the moment.

Cereal: We all must embrace our inner child

I eat Waffle Crisps. I used to eat Special K Red Berries, but I realize that cereal should be an experience that harkens back to when one used to sit with the family for about 30 minutes before work and school to eat breakfast, TOGETHER. Cereal should be sugary sweet and make your milk the colors of chocolate and strawberries...if I wanted nuts and granola, I'll eat a bag of trail mix. You keep your Shredded Wheat...I'll be very happy with my Lucky Charms, Coco Puffs, and Captain Crunch thank you very much.

Why am I NEVER around when things like THIS happen?

COFFEE CONNOISSEUR FIRTH FIGHTS FOR FAIR TRADE

Colin Firth.

Serving coffee.

All he would need at that point is a slice of cheesecake in the other hand and nothing on but a smile and...ok, that's enough. I have to stop or I would need a cigarette, and I don't smoke.

John Mayer is smarter than you

And me, too. He is clever, that Mayer kid. For instance, I didn't like Jack FM (100.7 in San Diego) at first, but here's something he said that made me think a little more about it:

Jack-FM: During my most recent three-day stay in L. A., I never once changed the radio station. Imagine a place on the dial that interviews you and your friends, asks what songs you like, and then plays them one after another. The station is called Jack-FM, and I've come to find there are more and more Jack stations cropping up across the country. Almost no DJs, few commercials, and lots of songs you forgot you loved. It's radio turned inside out.

When I first heard that Star 100.7 FM had changed formats, I was shocked. They had just completed the highly successful "Fugative" contest (which my friends and I could have won...but we were on the wrong side of the mall...if you're lost, don't worry about it...it's over and we didn't win $20,000), I thought all was right in the world of Star 100.7. A few weeks later, this "Jack FM" thing started to take over, telling us "We play what we want to, so deal with it". It put me off for a good couple of months. I thought, "Fuck YOU Jack, I'll listen to my iPod."

So I decided to listen after reading John's observation (which can be found in his monthly column in Esquire magazine), and he's right. Actually, it was like listening to my iPod, but with every hit song played on the radio from 1960-2005, in addition to my own collection. They played "Policy of Truth" by Depeche Mode for God's sake. Other Top 40 stations here barely play "Just Can't Get Enough" or "Personal Jesus".

Good guys are COOL (and so are good gals)

I saw this on a shirt that I will eventually purchase. It's got Superman on the shirt, but I want one with Wonder Woman on it.

Wonder Woman IS cool. Wonder Woman has a "lasso of truth" and an invisible jet. I don't have that.

Oh shut up because neither do you. But if you do...uh, call me, thanks.

Iambic Pentameter

I just wanted to type that out because it popped into my head. Makes me want to write a sonnet...

"We hold these truths to be self-evident"

Well, *I* do at least.

CLOSING THOUGHT

Ok, so I have to say this...and I may get lambasted for it, but I don't give a shit:

I am diggin' Rock Star INXS.

At first, I was like "OH HELL NO...YOU CANNOT REPLACE MICHAEL HUTCHENCE!" But as the band said, they aren't trying to replace him. They are trying to move on, as difficult as it is, without him.

It's not fair that U2, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and others from their era can enjoy the sucessfull come backs, right? It's not the band's fault that Michael Hutchence took his own life, as tragic as it was for the band and fans alike.

My pick for the winner: JD

I like JD because he creates his own arrangements, he's got the look and loves INXS. I feel that he can pull off being the front man without trying to be Michael Hutchence. And the band loved the fact that he's working with the house band because they need their singer to work with them, and not just take them for granted that they are "support". The other singers will be front men with a legendary band behind them as backing. JD will be a part of the band.

There are also female singers who are auditioning...and as talented as they are, I just can't see it. I can't see a female front person for INXS. Even Jordis, as cool as I think she is...I just can't see it. Nope. No way. No.

At first, I didn't want to like this show. I wanted to HATE this show. But as I see how excited the band is to be out and about again, picking a singer so that they can tour and do an album, it's hard to not watch and root for them, you know?

Also, I grew up listening to INXS, and I did Depeche Mode and Duran Duran. I saw Michael Hutchence when I was 18 during the KICK tour (I thought I was 19, but even better!). I went with my sister and we had a great time. During the spoken part of "Need You Tonight", Michael was ripping a piece of paper that he had originally used as reference for that part of the song...but clearly didn't need it and ripped it slowly and very sexily...dear LORD.

I will go see INXS with the new singer. I loved them back then, and I still love their music now.

For those of you who I sent a text message to...please don't call my house and blurt out that you know anything. For those of you who still read my blog, I'll ask the same thing because I'm about to let you all in on a little secret...

My sister called...

IT'S A GIRL!

I'm gonna have a little niece!

On Monday, I started a write up on my 4th of July weekend, but I kept getting busy and I could never finish a thought...so I decided to list the events that happened:

JULY 1-4, 2005

-Went to godson's birthday party on Friday, had pizza with dozens of kids, my relatives, and large fuzzy mechanical animatron animals, one named "Chuck".

-San Diego Fair (formerly and will forever be known as the Del Mar Fair) on Saturday. Went with Ten and while walking through the food area, I said to be funny "Yes, could I have a truckload of carbs fried in a pound of lard served with a side of Velveeta please?" Someone heard me and turned around and said something like, "That's the only way to have it!"

The theme this year was Cinema celebration and heralded all things in the film industry. We could have had the privilege of meeting some of the Munchkins from the "Wizard of Oz" but I decided to forgo that honor.

Ten and I went shopping at a little import booth (mostly Chinese goods)...TWICE. Lots of cool little deals, and we got tons of stuff and probably spent at the most $30. But she bought a little more.

Decided not to go out that night, but did receive drunken phone call from friends who went to the same party that Ten went to. Well...Ten called me, but passed the phone to the boys who were drunk.

-Sunday, ate lunch at Barona. The night into morning was a bit more emotion filled. I won't go into detail, but I was quite drained and concerned. One can only hope for the best for people, and I hope my friend understood.

-4th of July started with that same emotional vibe. I have come to admire my mother and her strength with each day that passes, and her resolve is also amazing. I hope my involving her and her intervention in a situation will make the necessary changes for someone close to me. Again, no names mentioned, and this person knows who they are.

UNLV and I had been playing phone tag the whole day, and finally got to chat right before the fireworks. I miss him a lot, and hopefully we can see each other soon.

MACULAR HOLE

My mom has developed a "macular hole" in the back of her eye. It's an age related condition that happens to the eye where the vitreous (the Jell-O substance in the eye) rubs against the macula (the part of the retina that is specialized and allows us to have detailed vision) and creates a hole. She was deciding on surgery (called a vitrectomy), which would mean that she would have to be lying face down for about 2-3 weeks to allow for a gas bubble that is inserted into the eye to seperate the vitreous from the macula so that the hole can heal and eventually close. I read that the surgery is really not necessary because it is elective and not life threatening, and if the other eye is still healthy, then there is nothing to really worry about. The risk is that my mom could lose peripheral vision.

Here's an article: http://www.vrmny.com/MH.htm

HOME IMPORVEMENT UPDATE

Yes, it is STILL going on. What are we on, month 7? UNLV mentioned to me yesterday that it pays to have work professionally done because the time my mom and I spent living in this construction zone can be looked at as wasted money. I definitely see where he is coming from, but we have truly spent about half as much LESS than we could have had we went with a crew, so there is a payoff.

-Labor costs are about 40% cheaper than the standard.
-Consultation was free (initial and ongoing, no hourly rates for chosing material).
-I did not have to move any furniture to accommodate the construction.
-I will have a custom closet.

I'm sure there are more benefits, but there have been setbacks. My contractor friend is definitely learning the ropes with us, so when he's ready to tackle new clients, he can adjust his prices and really learn how to manage his time and lay down a timeline for customers.

I AM STILL IN LOVE WITH COLIN FIRTH

Yes, oh yes. That man is such a wonder to behold.

COINCIDENCES
(mind you, these are just very very trivial ones, mostly to do with O-Town, so you can bypass this section if you would like)

-I just told my sister and Ten that I read online that Dan Miller from O-Town is touring with Jordan Knight and others on a "Girls Night Out/Boys of Summer" tour of small venues across the US (mostly House of Blues).

-I then read that Ashley Angel from O-Town is in negotiations over a new reality show called "There and Back".

-My mom was talking about Gidget's baby's name being Trevor, and she said, "Anytime I hear the name Trevor, I think of that guy from O-Town who's mom came to our house." That would be Trevor Pennick and his mom, Doris.

-I was at SavOn today getting a prescription filled, and I heard "All Or Nothing" on the radio.

AND ONE LAST THOUGHT...

Isn't it nice when someone you really care about says, "I miss you, too".

One of the best feelings in the world.

I like that.
