On Monday, I started a write up on my 4th of July weekend, but I kept getting busy and I could never finish a thought...so I decided to list the events that happened:

JULY 1-4, 2005

-Went to godson's birthday party on Friday, had pizza with dozens of kids, my relatives, and large fuzzy mechanical animatron animals, one named "Chuck".

-San Diego Fair (formerly and will forever be known as the Del Mar Fair) on Saturday. Went with Ten and while walking through the food area, I said to be funny "Yes, could I have a truckload of carbs fried in a pound of lard served with a side of Velveeta please?" Someone heard me and turned around and said something like, "That's the only way to have it!"

The theme this year was Cinema celebration and heralded all things in the film industry. We could have had the privilege of meeting some of the Munchkins from the "Wizard of Oz" but I decided to forgo that honor.

Ten and I went shopping at a little import booth (mostly Chinese goods)...TWICE. Lots of cool little deals, and we got tons of stuff and probably spent at the most $30. But she bought a little more.

Decided not to go out that night, but did receive drunken phone call from friends who went to the same party that Ten went to. Well...Ten called me, but passed the phone to the boys who were drunk.

-Sunday, ate lunch at Barona. The night into morning was a bit more emotion filled. I won't go into detail, but I was quite drained and concerned. One can only hope for the best for people, and I hope my friend understood.

-4th of July started with that same emotional vibe. I have come to admire my mother and her strength with each day that passes, and her resolve is also amazing. I hope my involving her and her intervention in a situation will make the necessary changes for someone close to me. Again, no names mentioned, and this person knows who they are.

UNLV and I had been playing phone tag the whole day, and finally got to chat right before the fireworks. I miss him a lot, and hopefully we can see each other soon.

MACULAR HOLE

My mom has developed a "macular hole" in the back of her eye. It's an age related condition that happens to the eye where the vitreous (the Jell-O substance in the eye) rubs against the macula (the part of the retina that is specialized and allows us to have detailed vision) and creates a hole. She was deciding on surgery (called a vitrectomy), which would mean that she would have to be lying face down for about 2-3 weeks to allow for a gas bubble that is inserted into the eye to seperate the vitreous from the macula so that the hole can heal and eventually close. I read that the surgery is really not necessary because it is elective and not life threatening, and if the other eye is still healthy, then there is nothing to really worry about. The risk is that my mom could lose peripheral vision.

HOME IMPORVEMENT UPDATE

Yes, it is STILL going on. What are we on, month 7? UNLV mentioned to me yesterday that it pays to have work professionally done because the time my mom and I spent living in this construction zone can be looked at as wasted money. I definitely see where he is coming from, but we have truly spent about half as much LESS than we could have had we went with a crew, so there is a payoff.

-Labor costs are about 40% cheaper than the standard.
-Consultation was free (initial and ongoing, no hourly rates for chosing material).
-I did not have to move any furniture to accommodate the construction.
-I will have a custom closet.

I'm sure there are more benefits, but there have been setbacks. My contractor friend is definitely learning the ropes with us, so when he's ready to tackle new clients, he can adjust his prices and really learn how to manage his time and lay down a timeline for customers.

I AM STILL IN LOVE WITH COLIN FIRTH

Yes, oh yes. That man is such a wonder to behold.

COINCIDENCES
(mind you, these are just very very trivial ones, mostly to do with O-Town, so you can bypass this section if you would like)

-I just told my sister and Ten that I read online that Dan Miller from O-Town is touring with Jordan Knight and others on a "Girls Night Out/Boys of Summer" tour of small venues across the US (mostly House of Blues).

-I then read that Ashley Angel from O-Town is in negotiations over a new reality show called "There and Back".

-My mom was talking about Gidget's baby's name being Trevor, and she said, "Anytime I hear the name Trevor, I think of that guy from O-Town who's mom came to our house." That would be Trevor Pennick and his mom, Doris.

-I was at SavOn today getting a prescription filled, and I heard "All Or Nothing" on the radio.

AND ONE LAST THOUGHT...

Isn't it nice when someone you really care about says, "I miss you, too".

One of the best feelings in the world.
